The
good and bad of The New Majority
What's great about New Majority African Americans is we are loud. Because of the loudness of persons like Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth and Martin Luther King, other groups have gained some of the same human and civil rights that so many of our fore-parents shed blood for. White Women rights (separate from the movement of African American women), Latino rights, Asian rights, Gay rights all owe a great thank you to people who were lynched, burnt at the stake, and physically deformed for the right of us to take our rightful place in the universe.
What I hate about New Majority African Americans is we are loud. Take a walk through any inner-city USA and you will hear the sort of loudness that is much to do about nothing. On city buses in the South and on the subways of the East, we sprout gilded ecstasy of woman and man hood whose journeys continue in an unending cycle of ignorance.
Some of us use the suffering of our fore-parents to justify current inadequate
conditions. We think their fight for justice gives us cause to place our
plates in front of others at the table of human-hood. But remember, our
greatest champion, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke about all peoples having
equal opportunity to feast on that food called "Earthly Success."
What's great about New Majority Latino Americans is the pride we show in
our cultural traditions and family ties which are as strong as any peoples
anywhere. When Malcolm X said "By any means necessary" he could have very
well included who some people call "Illegal Alien" but who I call "Alien
to Excuses."
We "Alien to Excuses" people will accept any job, under any condition, because
we know this to shall past. Young bellies thousands of miles away in southern
Mexico, Central and South America now have full stomachs that are alien
to hunger thanks to us.
When the terror of White American Slavery was at its peak, we Mexicans served
as a haven of freedom for the African slave. In the early 19th century,
when poor and destitute White Americans needed a place to call home, we
Mexicans welcomed them with opened arms to Texas.
What I hate about New Majority Latino Americans is our "What about me?"
attitude as it relates to issues of race in America. Many of us do not recognize
the sacrifice of our African American brethren who received the brunt of
blows in the fight for equality. In truth, most of us took no stand during
America's "Separate and Un-Equal" period of the late 19th and 20th century.
Maybe some of us did believe in the mantra 'If you're White you're alright,
If you're Black stay back, If you're Brown stick around.'
And for those of us who claim Texas was stolen by the White Man? Go back
and look at history. If not for the help of our own people, Texas may still
be a Mexican state.
What's great about New Majority Asian Americans is we refuse to let circumstance
get in the way of success. If we're given lemons, we make lemonade, if we're
given a toy, we make Toyota. Our youth pay know mind to the ignorant peer
pressure which is rampant in our public schools. When members of The Old
Majority talk about Affirmative Action in university admissions, they're
not talking about us.
What
I hate about New Majority Asian
Americans is that damn Chinese, Indian-Pakistani, and Japanese food. Man,
that stuff will kill you!
Pass the ribs and frijoles please!
From Publisher
The
New Majority is not a politically correct publication. The
New Majority seeks to have open and honest dialogue. No issue will be subjugated
to the outer realm of political and social discussion for fear of offending
someone. TNM will expand on those things which all New Majority persons
have in common and bring to light those things which brings us at odds with
one another.
